Scrap Car Collection Kilkenny
If you have a car in Kilkenny that has failed its NCT beyond economic repair, been written off, or simply reached the end of the road, Kilkenny Recovery Truck collects it on the flatbed and delivers it to an authorised treatment facility (ATF) so it is scrapped legally and you receive a Certificate of Destruction.
Scrapping a car properly matters in Ireland. Until the car is formally deregistered through an ATF, it remains registered to you, and you can still be liable for motor tax and for anything that happens to it. We take the car, the paperwork is done correctly, and you are finished with it.
How scrap car collection works
- Ring 087 288 2280 or send the registration, location and a photo by WhatsApp.
- We tell you what we can do, including whether the car has any scrap value or whether there is a collection charge.
- We collect the car on the flatbed from your driveway, garage, yard or wherever it is sitting. It does not need to roll, start or steer.
- The car goes to an authorised treatment facility, which issues the Certificate of Destruction and deregisters the vehicle.
- You keep the certificate as proof the car is no longer your responsibility.
What you need to have ready
- The Vehicle Registration Certificate (logbook), or an explanation if it is lost
- Proof of identity, as the ATF will ask for it
- The keys, if you have them (not essential)
- Any personal belongings removed from the car
Failed the NCT? Not always scrap
A long NCT fail sheet does not necessarily mean the car is finished. Before you scrap it, Webster's Garage can look at the fail items and give you a straight answer on whether a repair makes sense. If it does not, we scrap it for you. If it does, we can bring it to the garage, fix it, and bring it back for the retest.
Crashed, flooded and abandoned vehicles
We collect written-off cars from driveways and storage once the insurer has finished with them, flood-damaged cars that should not be started, and abandoned vehicles from private land where the landowner has the right to dispose of them. Ask us about what paperwork is needed in each case.
- Hazard lights on and, if it is safe, roll the car in off the road or into a gateway.
- At night or in bad weather, stay visible: hi-vis vest, sidelights on, warning triangle well back.
- Keep passengers away from the road, especially on narrow county roads with no verge.
- Send us your Eircode or a Google Maps pin so we find you first time.

Scrap Car Collection in Kilkenny: common questions
Do you pay for scrap cars?
It depends on the car, the weight, whether it is complete and current scrap metal prices. Some cars have a value, some cost money to collect. We tell you honestly on the phone.
Can I scrap a car without the logbook?
It is possible but the ATF will need alternative proof that you are entitled to dispose of the car. Ring us and we will explain what is needed.
Do I need to tax or insure the car to have it collected?
No. The car travels on the flatbed as a load. It does not need tax, insurance or an NCT.
What is a Certificate of Destruction?
It is the document issued by an authorised treatment facility confirming the vehicle has been taken off the road permanently and deregistered. It ends your responsibility for the vehicle.
