How Much Does Car Recovery Cost in Kilkenny?
A clear price on the phone before we move. No call-out fee, no membership, no surprises when the car is on the truck.
The most common question we get is "what will it cost?". The honest answer is "it depends, and we will tell you exactly before we come". This page explains what moves the price up or down so you know what to expect when you ring 087 288 2280.
What affects the price of a recovery
- Distance: where you are and where the car is going. A recovery within Kilkenny city is the cheapest job we do.
- Time of day: night, weekend and bank holiday recoveries carry a higher rate.
- Type of job: a jump start or tyre change at the roadside costs less than a full flatbed recovery.
- Vehicle: vans, 4x4s and heavy EVs take more time and equipment than a small hatchback.
- Difficulty: a car in a ditch, a field, a tight multi-storey car park or on its side takes winching and time.
- Motorway work: M9 recoveries involve extra distance to the junction and strict safety procedures.
- Storage: if your car has to be held at the garage after an accident, storage is charged per day.
Why local is cheaper in the end
A national breakdown provider may look free if it is bundled with your insurance, but you are paying for it in the premium, and when you need it you get a call centre, a queue and a subcontracted truck that could be an hour or more away. If you have cover, use it. If you have none, if the wait is too long, or if the policy will not bring the car where you want it to go, ring us directly and you get a local truck, a known price and the option to have the car repaired at Webster's Garage without paying twice for transport.
Roadside fix first, recovery only if needed
We always try to get you moving at the roadside first. If a jump start, a wheel change, a belt or a fuse does the job, you pay the lower roadside rate. If the car has to go on the truck, you pay for the recovery, and there is no second call-out charge. On the M9 we recover first and fix at the next junction, because the hard shoulder is not a place to work.
- Price agreed before the truck moves
- No separate call-out fee
- No membership or subscription
- Card, cash or bank transfer
- Receipt with all details for your insurer
- Trade and fleet rates available
Recovery pricing: your questions answered
Why do you not list fixed prices online?
Because two recoveries are rarely the same. A jump start in Kilkenny city at 2pm and a winch recovery from a ditch outside Windgap at 2am are completely different jobs. What we do promise is a clear, fixed price on the phone before the truck moves, with no extras added afterwards.
Is there a call-out fee?
No separate call-out fee. The price we quote is the whole price for the job. If we attend and cannot help, which is rare, we will tell you on the phone beforehand if there is any charge.
Do I need to be a member or have breakdown cover?
No. We are pay-as-you-go. Ring us, agree the price, and pay by card, cash or bank transfer when the job is done.
Will my insurance or breakdown cover reimburse me?
Usually not for a breakdown you arranged yourself: most Irish breakdown cover only pays for recovery booked through the insurer's own line, so ring them first if you have cover. Accident recovery and storage after an insured collision is different and is normally part of the claim. Check your policy document. We provide a detailed receipt either way.
Is motorway recovery more expensive?
Usually a little, because of the distance to the junction, the time involved and the safety procedures. It is still far cheaper than the alternative of a long wait or a vehicle removed by the motorway operator.
Is there a night rate?
Yes, recoveries between late evening and early morning carry a night rate, as with every recovery operator. You are told the price before we move, whatever the hour.
How do I pay?
Card (including contactless), cash or bank transfer. Trade and fleet customers can be invoiced monthly.
Can I get a quote by WhatsApp?
Yes. Send your location, the vehicle and what has happened to 087 288 2280 on WhatsApp and you will get a price back quickly. For an emergency, ring.
